If you do not have bootable backup you may create one by installing, lets say Carbon Copy Cloner and create bootable backup on external USB disk using it.

Then boot from that external disk, and do clean install to disk located inside your Mac
Otherwise, I believe that it is worth showing your Mac to the guy with screwdriver in hands.
